Purpose
The objective of the course is to give students:
• An overview of the English Language, its history, and development
• An understanding of the theory of English Language Teaching (ELT)
• To offer insight into the methodology in ELT
• An appreciation of the significance and role of English as an international language

Content
The course is structured as follows:
• A study of the English language.
• ELT-theory.
• Methodology in English Language Teaching (ELT ).
• English as lingua franca.
• An understanding of syllabi in ELT.
Learning and teaching approaches
The teaching approach will be partially lecturer-centred and partially project-based.
Assessment method
The students will make group presentations on given topics
Grading:
The student will be graded: passed or failed.
The basis of evaluation comprises:
• The ability of the student to present a comprehensive piece of work that exhibits the student’s comprehension of the given topic.
• The skills of analysis and synthesis as evidenced in the presentation.
• Body language, visual communication, and presentation skills.
• Fluency and clarity of language and interactive communication skills.
