Prerequisites
It is a condition for participation that the student is enrolled on the Diploma in Art.
Purpose
Students will acquire a foundation in music-production and learn to use relevant music technology in their own music making.
Content
The workshop will to a large extent focus on how music technology is used in creative music composition and as a tool to produce finished music works. Teaching will be tailored to ensure that course contents, to the extent possible, correspond to students’ practical needs. The course will, for example, focus on analysing and using different music forms. Students will be taught to use relevant programmes and technology and learn to work with their own music works from recording to the finished production. The course will also examine the contrasts between electronic and non-electronic music and the artistic opportunities inherent to these contrasts.
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching spans 3 hours a week over one semester. Classes will be workshop-based with exercises, lectures and presentations.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: - explain theoretical reflections and methods in composition and music-production, - discuss these analytically and critically, - demonstrate examples of the development of their own methods in composition with particular regard to music forms and music-production (produce a portfolio).
