Title
Independent Work I – Creative writing
ECTS
10
Prerequisites
Students must be enrolled on the Bachelor in Creative Arts programme.
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to develop independent writing methods, strengthen work on individual creative writing, and equip students with the critical skills to detect how decisions on form and contents influence texts artistically.
Content
Students will work with their own texts, which they will write and submit as part of the course. Through conversations, close reading and critique students will work with analysing and developing their own writing and style. The course emphasises in-depth work with texts to enable students to find their own distinct voice in writing.
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching spans 3 hours a week over one semester. The approach used is master classes where students’ own works are discussed and developed through critical conversations in group and individually. In addition to the students’ texts, other materials will be read to provide inspiration for students’ own writing.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: - explain their own method, - discuss their own approach to writing considering genre and recipients, - assess the artistic strengths and weaknesses of their own texts.
Assessment method
Combined examination. Oral examination based on a portfolio, which is due for submission before the examination (10 pages).
