Participants are required to have successfully completed: Workshop II Creative Writing
Purpose
Students gain insight into different writing methods, genres and styles in creative writing, and into theoretical thinking, and learn to use and apply this knowledge and these methods autonomously and in practice when writing.
Content
This course is a continuation of Workshop II Creative Writing. The teaching focuses on both craft and theory. The students develop their writing skills through writing exercises, different writing methods and styles, and various theories on creative writing will be examined and applied. The teaching also focuses on discussing how students can use different sources of inspiration in the writing process, and how theory can be used to discuss text and different writing styles.
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching spans 3 hours a week over one semester. The approach used is workshop-based teaching with writing exercises, discussions and presentations.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: - produce developed text samples of different writing methods (produce a portfolio) - demonstrate autonomous use of different writing methods/styles/genres (portfolio) - use theory to discuss text, writing styles and genres - discuss these subjects critically
Assessment method
Combined examination. Oral examination based on the portfolio submitted two weeks before the examination
