Prerequisites
Students must be enrolled for the BA in Creative Arts.
Purpose
The aim of the course is to develop an independent approach to music composition and to equip students with the critical ability to identify their own sound in music.
Content
Students will work on own compositions which they produce over the course of the semester as well as other assignments that focus on the strengthening of musical form and harmony. A main emphasis will be placed on close listening and analysing the works with respect to how compositions and arrangements correspond with artistic intentions.
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching spans 3 hours a week over one semester The students' own compositions and other assignments are discussed and developed through critical conversations - collectively and individually. Active participation: the course requires 80% class attendance and assignments/submissions at required deadlines. Active participation is a prerequisite for students to attend examination. Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: - explain their own creative methods - identify their own musical sound with respect to style and sources of inspiration - assess strengths and weaknesses in their own compositions - demonstrate a development in their own compositions (produce portfolio)
Assessment method
Combined examination. Oral examination based on a portfolio, which is due for submission before the oral examination. *Reexamination: portfolio + reflection (7 standard pages 2.400 characters with spaces pr. page)
