Music Composition I
To participate in the course students must be enrolled for the diploma in art.
The students gain foundational knowledge of the theory and techniques of music composition and songwriting and learn to apply this knowledge in practice.
The course is arranged so that the content matches the interests of the students as far as possible. Topics covered in the course include tonal theory, harmony, music technology as well as other topics which are relevant to the genre within which the students work. A special emphasis is placed both on analysing relevant theories of music and mastering theoretical knowledge in practice.
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching takes place 3 hours a week for one semester. Classes are organised as workshops with exercises, discussions, lectures and presentations.
Upon completion of the course the student should be capable of - explaining basic theories and techniques of composition and songwriting - discuss these in an analytic fashion - demonstrate them in practice and evaluate them
Combined. Take-home assignment + oral presentation.
Readings and other material will be distributed at the beginning of the semester. For the exam, the student presents a reading list with the material which has been covered during the course. The list should comply with the conditions which apply to BA-level courses at the Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature.
