Prerequisites
An academically oriented upper secondary diploma with a good average mark in Faroese (i.e. at least 5.8 on the 7-step marking scale or 8 on the marking scale from 00 to 13).
Purpose
To provide students with basic knowledge about textual analysis, in particular the analysis of one of the genres of imaginative literature and with knowledge about analytical concepts, in particular as related to one of the genres of imaginative literature. The course emphasises developing students’ ability to analyse one of the main genres of imaginative literature and to apply analytical concepts to this task.
Content
Students will be required to read introductory literature on textual analysis, focusing in particular on one of the main genres of imaginative literature. Students will examine and analyse varied examples of particularly one of the genres of imaginative literature.
Learning and teaching approaches
This class-based course is offered as two hours per week over one semester. The main learning and teaching strategies used will be lectures and student presentations, written exercises and group work.
Learning outcomes
Successful students can demonstrate ability to: • analyse texts from one of the main genres of imaginative literature. • explain the characteristics of one of the main genres of imaginative literature • describe their own approach to textual analysis of texts from one of the main genres of imaginative literature • communicate the results of analysis in one of the main genres of imaginative literature • express orally and in writing using appropriate language the results of analyses of one of the main genres of imaginative literature
Assessment method
4-hour written examination based on an unseen text. Permitted study aids: all dictionaries.
