A selection of texts in Faroese and other Nordic languages will be read in the three main genres, poetry, narrative and drama. The texts will be discussed and analysed with regard to narrativity, structure, imagery, prosody, style, etc. in order to show the significance of the various structural elements for interpretation of the text. Students undertake written assignments which will be reviewed with regard to analytical result and writing competence. A number of methodologies will be discussed and examples given to show the theory, procedure and the purpose of the analysis; new criticism, structuralism, critique of ideology, history of ideas, psychological and deconstructive methodologies may be included.
