Purpose
During the course, the student shall • gain a knowledge of the historical trends and relationships among scholarship, philosophy and society • learn to think critically about theory development • learn to apply theory in a critical manner
Content
The course covers an introduction to questions informing humanistic theoretical research. Special emphasis is placed on the study of theoretical research questions that are highly relevant to the scholarly debate regarding the history, substance, methodologies and development of Faroese as a subject of research and teaching. Examination For the examination, the student is required to • describe the theoretical texts from the reading list in their historical context • analyze questions concerning Faroese as an academic subject and the theoretical background of such questions. Reading List The student shall be responsible for some 350 pages. Approximately 200 pages shall cover general research theory and its history and approximately 150 pages shall be scholarly work related to Faroese as a focus of academic research and teaching.
Learning and teaching approaches
Instruction takes place two hours per week over two terms or the equivalent.
Assessment method
6-hour written examination with internal examiners.
