Purpose
To equip you with insight and the ability to work with bilingualism. You should understand scholarly texts on the subject and have the ability to work with bilingualism data.
Content
The course will focus on bilingualism generally and specifically in the Faroe Islands. You will read about bilingualism in society and bilingualism in individuals.
Learning and teaching approaches
The duration of the course is three hours a week over one semester. The approaches used are lectures and student presentations. Questions will be asked about the texts and they will be discussed.
Learning outcomes
Once the course has been completed, successful students can demonstrate the ability to: • Describe the situation of bilingualism in the Faroe Islands and assess it • To use the relevant terminology • Work with language data on a foundational level • Discuss bilingualism using appropriate language • Work independently and meet deadlines • Find materials on the subject.
Assessment method
30-minute oral examination with 30 minutes of preparation time.
