Prerequisites
Students must have completed the required core component of the BA in Faroese or hold an equivalent qualification. This course may also be completed as an individual course subject to other prerequisites (please refer to the Degree Programme in force).
Purpose
For students to learn about the #MeToo movement and the core issues of the #MeToo struggle. Based on theory articles students will learn to analyse and interpret both older and more recent works of literature in light of #MeToo.
Content
In the wake of the #MeToo movement, violence against women has become a subject of public conversation and is widely debated around the globe. This is reflected in recent literature. Violence against women is, however, no new phenomenon in society or literature. This course will examine how violence against women is reflected in Icelandic and Faroese literature. The course will discuss ballads and medieval texts, as well as contemporary literature. Articles on the theory in the field and on literary theory will also be part of the course reading list.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: • explain the main characteristics and issues of the #MeToo movement • describe theories and concepts that are part of or relevant to the #MeToo movement, and relate these to literary texts • analyse and interpret literature based on perspectives and concepts that are associated with the #MeToo movement.
