Translation Studies (BA)
Students must have completed the required core component of the BA in Faroese or hold an equivalent qualification. This course may also be completed as an individual course subject to other prerequisites (please refer to the Degree Programme in force).
For students to acquire insight into key issues in the theory and practice of translation and knowledge about the position of translation in society. Based on relevant translation theory, this course will equip students with the skills and tools to analyse translation processes and assess diversity in translation.
The course will focus on broad issues in theory and practice related to translation. Based on relevant translation theory, a selection of literary and specialist texts will be analysed considering the perspectives of various academic fields. Students will also carry out translations and examine the main aspects of the translation process in practice.

Lectures and student presentations, discussions and exercises.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate: • acquisition of fundamental theoretical knowledge about translation • acquisition of a foundation in how to use tools to independently and critically analyse and asses translation and stylistics • the ability to link the translations analysed to the theory acquired • acquisition of insight into the theory and practice of the main elements of the translation process • acquisition of knowledge about the position of translation in society • acquisition of knowledge about the terminology used in the field.
Assessment method
Take-home assignment (two weeks) on a set topic.
