Prerequisites
Students must have completed the required core components of the BA in Faroese or other equivalent preconditions. This course can also be taken as an individual course with other prerequisites (please refer to the academic programme in force).
Purpose
The student shall acquire theoretical knowledge about language contact and bilingualism, and knowledge about how s/he can work systematic with the topic and reflect over it.
Content
To get insight into language contact and bilingualism with special emphasis on the situation on the Faroe Islands. Get insight into what happens, when languages are in contact, and what impact it has on them.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lecture and student-presentation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students shall be able to • explain the main terms that concern language contact • discuss changes that happen in Faroese due to contact • be able to understand articles about the topic • work with data
Assessment method
Written examination, 6 hrs. Re-examination as the regular examination.
