Practicum in the Health, Body and Physical Activity Major

Purpose
The purpose of this course is four-fold: 1. Students will observe a) the health and habits of a particular group and its members, and/or b) their motor skills and sensory competence. 2. Students will develop a well-grounded lesson plan for the target group they have observed, which purpose is to develop a) health and habits, and/or b) their motor skills and sensory competence. 3. Students will use their lesson plans in their practicums. 4. Students will conduct a small empirical study on the health, habits, dietary habits or motor skills of the target group.
Content
In close co-operation with their host institution, students plan and organise their practicum, including deciding pedagogical approaches, evaluating activities and documenting results. It is recommended that students focus on a theme or subject covered in the Health, Body and Physical Activity major, e.g.: • Observation as pedagogical method • Didactic formulas for preparation and evaluation • Sensory competence: Balance, muscle and joints, and skin • Indoor games, with or without equipment • Gymnastics circuit • Drama and songs with movements • Treasure hunts and similar activities • The SAPRE method • Health initiatives
Assessment method
On completion of the practicum, students write a practicum report and make an oral presentation, which summarise the practicum. Further information will be provided in-class. Internal examiners will be used. Grades will be awarded on a Passed / Not passed basis.
