Purpose
The purpose of this course is to give the student insight into the meaning of the importance that Language has on the child’s development. The students get an insight into language acquisition in the early years, why linguistic work has a meaning and how this can be carried out. They will get an insight into the Faroese teaching environment and how it can be used in the pedagogical work.
Content
The students will be working with the importance of language and reading develpment and how the language is a part of childrens everyday life in institutions. The students have to prepare activities for children in pre-school, which stimulate and inspire language development according to the stages of development with inspiration from the Faroese learning immidiate environment. - Which importance the environment has on childrens language acquisition. - Get knowledge about f.ex. rhymes, chants, nursery rhymes, tales, childrens books and in addition, places of interest for children. - How to use this material in the pedagogical work.
Learning and teaching approaches
The teaching is organized as classroom teaching with lectures, distance learning, student presentations, discussions and groupwork.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • describe fundamental parts in a child's language acquisition • Explain the importance of language development for the development of reading skills and connect this to the pedagogical work. • Describe faroese language- and teaching environment for preschool children. • Explain how material from the Faroese immidiate environment can be used in the pedagogical work • Do a organized learning process based on theoretical material used on the course.
