Purpose
The student wil get an insight to the phenomenon normality and deviation, especially in institutions where children and young people are. In addition, learn to estimate the needs in this connection for both individuals, groups and relatives, and to familiarize themselves with practice opportunities and co-operation and work methods, which are based on new knowledge in the field.

Lectures, presentations, log-book, interview, PBL-work, cases, observations and research work, exercises, self study, self reflection.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • Describe various contemporary psychological diagnoses for children and young people, including congenital and acquired disabilities. • Describe several conditions that effect and are decisive for people where special or arising needs or events apply • Show, how experiences can affect the development, well-being and opportunities of the individual and the interaction with the environment. • Estimate, argue for and choose possible work methods, that are carried out for the special and social pedagogic needs of the individual and the group. • Relate to the individual, the group, colleagues and relatives, where special or arising needs apply • Show the importance of continuously being aware of the importance of and articulating one’s own role, e.g. awareness, reflection, communication and language use in the work as a pedagogue, development, learning and growth, benefitting children/users.
