Purpose
In this course, students will acquire knowledge of trends in aesthetic pedagogy and in how aesthetic learning processes can be employed in kindergartens and schools. In this course students will - learn to distinguish between formal and informal learning processes - acquire thorough knowledge of the distinguishing marks of aesthetic learning processes - learn to think creatively and innovatively when shaping a good context for development and inspiring learning processes in kindergartens and schools - become able to plan an aesthetic project, conduct it and evaluate it
Content
The course consists of two inter-related parts, one theoretical and the other practical. The topics covered are: - Didactic challenges in kindergartens and schools - Creativity and innovation with regard to development and learning - The three important aspects in the relation of culture and children: Culture for children, culture with children, and a child’s own culture - Children and digital media - Conducting creative processes with children - Flow as disciplinary concept and psychological phenomenon - Workshop pedagogy in historical context - Workshops as a learning process
Assessment method
Students are assessed on basis of three assignments. 1. Students will develop an aesthetic learning process/workshop. 2. The students will conduct the workshop during a practicum in a kindergarten or in a class of 1., 2. or 3. graders. 3. On completion of the practicum, students write a practicum report, in which they tie the theoretical part of the course, the workshop and the practicum together. Further instructions on the assignments will be provided in-class. In order to pass the course, students must pass all assignments. The final grade is based on the practicum report and will be awarded according to the current grading scale.
