Purpose
To give students an understanding of the principles of assessment of and for learning in the context of the teaching of the four language skills in ELT.

• Classroom Management-an introduction • Pedagogical leadership-the teacher as leader • Formative and summative assessment- a critical perspective • Assessment of the four skills in ELT • Action research-assessment of self as teacher

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course learners should be able to : • Evaluate and apply the principles of assessment in context. • Critically apply principles of practical pedagogy in designing a skills-based ELT approach based on assessment tenets. • Evaluate the role of the teacher in assessment and the ethics of assessment in the ELT classroom.
Assessment method
An individual presentation of a classroom activity designed to use teaching approaches to two language skills in the context of a relevant assessment framework.
