Purpose
To give students a working knowledge of the history and methodology of the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language.
To evaluate syllabus design and materials for teaching English competently and critically.
Content
• The Methodology of Teaching English a Foreign Language.
• Curriculum, syllabus design and kinds of syllabi.
• Designing English as a Foreign Language syllabi & lessons for grades 4 -7 & 8 -10 in schools.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures by lecturer.
Student teaching in pairs.
Pair/individual projects.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
• Describe and discuss the various teaching approaches of English as a foreign language.
• Identify the various approaches to teaching English as a foreign language and apply them in the context of the Faroese classroom.
• Apply criteria of how English can be learnt as a foreign language to evaluate English textbooks in use, their relevance to the curriculum and efficacy as materials for English language learning.
• Design syllabi & materials for English as a foreign language teaching for various grades based on curriculum.

Designing a digital teaching section in a syllabus.
