Purpose
The student will learn to assess, plan, implement and evaluate inclusive teaching approaches that benefit pupils who have challenges in primary and upper secondary school
Content
Main topics: • Relationship Competency • Special pedagogical didactics and special pedagogical tools • Classroom management • Teaching differentiation • The NEST program • The child will not go to school - preventive work • ADHD-friendly pedagogy • Autism-friendly pedagogy - including social skills training • “The incredible years method” • Theories of mentalization • “The low arousal method” • Place Based Education – the neighborhood as a learning environment •

Lectures, presentations, logbook, dialogues, casework, exercises and self-study
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to • describe which public institutions are responsible for pupils who have special challenges in primary and upper secondary school • explain how important good relations and good classroom management are in special education • explain what characterizes “ADHD-friendly pedagogy” and “Autism-friendly pedagogy” • explain the phenomenon of "children refusing to go to school" and, based on reliable research, assess what the phenomenon may be an expression of • reflect on how cooperation between home and school should be organized when a student does not learn what he should at school • analyze special educational promotions in primary and upper secondary school • illustrate and demonstrate how the teacher can organize teaching for pupils who have challenges in primary and upper secondary school - both in the basic class, in special educational offers and in special schools
Assessment method
Oral examination. The students are given a specific case 5 days before the oral exam. The case describes a special educational dilemma. The students must analyze and interpret the dilemma based on the theories and methods that they have worked with throughout the course. They must give concrete examples of how to solve the dilemma. The students can work individually or in pairs
