Prerequisites
A student of teacher education in the Faculty of Education, the University of the Faroe Islands.
Purpose
The course has three main purposes: The aim is for the student to gain a clear understanding of how to work with diverse text genres in teaching faroese. The purpose is also to make the student able to independently reflect on the texts and discuss them in a teaching context at school and in an academic context with colleagues. The student must learn to prepare, execute and evaluate teaching courses in the subject. This is done in accordance with the current teaching plan in the Faroese primary school.
Content
The course is organized into several independent yet coherent parts: - Literary history - Literary genres and analysis concepts - Literature didactics and design - Analysis and interpretation of fiction - Work and assessment of facts - Multimodal texts - Production of own texts - Teaching literature and literary history
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures, cooperative teaching, topic work, discussion groups, independent assignments, writing exercises, individual and group presentations.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students must be able to: • Explain the main lines of literary history in a European and Faroese context. • Give an account of literary genres and their interrelationship. • Analyze and evaluate fiction and non-fiction texts. • Assess texts and their role in a literary and media fair context. • Reflect on and discuss minor topics in a teaching context that are linked to the curriculum. • Use and assess the didactic importance of multimodal texts in teaching. • To give short lectures on literature topics.
Assessment method
The student must write a synopsis on a self-selected topic and show with concrete examples how this can be used in teaching faroese. The synopsis must be presented orally. The synopsis can be written individually or in pairs. The examination format is described in more detail in a separate document
