Prerequisites
In order to take the course, students have to be enrolled in the Department of Education.
Purpose
The purpose of the course is for the students to gain insight into geophysical systems and human interactions wih the physical environment.
Content
Physical geography • Geological cycles • Landforms and glacial geology • Water, ice and wind • The solar system and planets • The ebb and flow of tides • Weather, climate and climate change Pedagogical content • Teaching materials and teaching methods
Learning and teaching approaches
Varied teaching approaches used which include both lectures and group work, where students work together to produce teaching materials – both in digital and paper format. Field trips and outdoor education are also part of the curriculum.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to • describe Physical geography and its varied aspects and interconnections. • assess how human beings and nature affect and impact one another. • demonstrate the main topics of the geography curriculum. • produce teaching materials which successfully support one´s teaching of geography. • demonstrate with examples how an inspiring teaching of the subject can be achieved.
Assessment method
Throughout the course, students must submit a number of study products. These study products must be presented to the lecturer and/or fellow students. The teacher assesses the study products from time to time and the students receive formative feedback
