Prerequisites
Students on the second, third and fourth academic year of Bachelor of Education in Primary and Lower Secondary Education apply for specialised subjects via Moodle. Applicants for an individual course may apply via the Faculty of Education Office.
Purpose
The aim of the course is to qualify the students to be able to lay a foundation, develop, practice, and evaluate practices in teaching and imparting visual art in primary and lower secondary school. The student is required to acquire knowledge of: • An outline of Faroese art history, the historical development and main styles, and the importance and role visual arts has had for Faroese identity. • Didactical approaches and theories • Practical experience with approaches and materials • the role visual arts plays in primary and lower secondary school, both as a teaching subject and as a relevant tool in other subjects. • to understand basic concepts in the field and how to use them in an art historical context. • approaches to working creatively and to develop skills to organise teaching in visual arts in primary and lower secondary school.
Content
The course is based on theories about aesthetics, visual arts, didactics, learning processes and mediation. Among the subjects are: An introduction to history of art Didactic approaches in teaching visual arts To facilitate creative work Visual arts as a part of Faroese culture and as a subject in primary and lower secondary school
Learning and teaching approaches
Presentations from lecturers and guest lecturers, presentations from students, group work, discussion forum, outings, different exercises
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students must be able to: • develop visual arts teaching and mediate visual arts in a reflected and didactic way, aimed at different target groups. • Organise, plan, implement and evaluate teaching in visual arts. • Can collaborate with relevant parties to solve tasks concerning visual arts and teaching in primary and lower secondary school. • Have a general insight into theories about didactics, learning processes and fine arts relevant to primary and lower secondary school. • explain the role and importance of visual arts as a subject in primary and lower secondary school. • Can reflect on historical and current subjects and trends in visual arts and didactics. • Have knowledge about and practical skills in producing visual materials.
Assessment method
The examination is in two parts. The students must write an assignment, which will be presented orally.
