Prerequisites
A prerequisite for taking the course is that the reader is enrolled in the teaching program at the Faculty of Education.
Purpose
The purpose of the course is for the student, with a foundation in exercise pedagogy in sports and basic principles of sports didactics, to be able to organize and plan coherent and progressive teaching methods related to specific and relevant topics in physical education. The emphasis will be on the curriculum of the primary school, focusing on fundamental skills, recreational sports, outdoor activities, ball games, rhythm, and extracurricular subjects
Content
Building on Course I, this course covers two main topics: exercise science in physiology, anatomy, strength training, endurance training, technique training, etc. Teaching practices in physical education with a basis in the primary school curriculum.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures, guest lectures, group work, presentations, discussions, self-directed assignments. Practical elements will include exercises, preparations, demonstrations, instructions, adaptations, visits outside the classroom, etc.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the reader should be able to describe basic exercise science in physical activity, develop a plan for organizing and presenting physical education teaching methods, taking into account the progressive education of both individual students and the class as a whole. The plan should foster movement activities with a foundation in exercise pedagogy and a coherent schedule on specific topics, indicating events in the teaching that develop the understanding, knowledge, and commitment to physical activity and exercise pedagogy in students. It should create a student-centered teaching approach in physical education that accommodates the developmental level of each student, even if there are students with special challenges or conditions. The reader should be able to reflect on, discuss, imitate, and suggest teaching methods in physical education from a holistic perspective between theory and practice.
Assessment method
The assessment includes both practical and written components. In the practical part of the course, students will organize a teaching, instruct, and in a written assignment, describe and discuss the teaching method with reference to the content of the course. The assessment criteria will be outlined in a separate document. Students can work independently or in pairs. The evaluation is individualized.
