Statistics 2 for biologists

Purpose
To provide the students with an understanding of multivariate statistical methods with relevance to biological sciences and to give an introduction to the use of a statistical software package.
Content
Multiple linear and non-linear regression analysis, model description, model testing, sequential methods for model selection. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) models, one-way and two-ways models, model testing. Multivariate analysis, principal components, cluster analysis. Problem solving with a statistical software package.
Learning and teaching approaches
20 lectures and 12 hours problem solving. One mandatory minor project will be done.
Assessment method
Final oral examination with ‘passed/failed’ grade. The minor project is included in the evaluation.
