Is to give the students an overview of the ecology, flora and fauna of an island with high diversity.

Lectures will be given at the University of Madeira in following subjects: History (paleo), vegetation, flora and fauna origin and evolution, climate and bioclimate on the island. Vegetation types and conservation status. The flora and fauna will be studied in the field in the litteral zone, in wet and dry laurisilva, on plateau and mountains.
