To provide students with knowledge of prokaryotes, mainly concentrated on bacteria, their taxonomy, biology and ecology.

Structure of prokaryotes and viruses. Bacterial taxonomy and identification. Nutrition and culture of microorganisms. Microbial growth. Microbial ecology. Industrial microbiology. Diseases caused by microbes, their diagnosis and epidemiology. Microbial growth control and antibiotics. Laboratory exercises: Bacterial growth, identification and processes.

Lectures and exercises. Each student should make an obligatory presentation.

Four-hour written examination. No auxiliary materials allowed, except for electronic calculator. NVD computer is available for writing. The existing grade scale will be used.
