Purpose
To provide students with knowledge of prokaryotes, their taxonomy, biology, ecology and interactions with humans.
Content
Bacterial taxonomy and identification. Nutrition and culture of microorganisms. Microbial growth and growth control. Microbial ecology. Food microbiology. Industrial microbiology. Diseases caused by microbes, their diagnosis and epidemiology.
Laboratory exercises: Bacterial growth and identification. Bacteria and food.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures and exercises.
Assessment method
Four-hour written examination. No auxiliary materials allowed, except for electronic calculator. NVD computer is available for writing. The existing grade scale will be used.
