To give the students a solid base of knowledge and understanding regarding all the various transport, digestive, excretory, defense, signaling, regulating and reproductive systems necessary in a multicellular eukaryote. And furthermore to give the students knowledge and understanding about animal body plans and development and finally making sense of it all by taking a closer look at the world they are a part of with the aid of behavioral ecology, ecosystems, and global ecology.
Various necessary multicellular organizational systems, animal body plan and development, overview of biodiversity, life history traits, populations, communities and ecosystems, conservation and global ecology.

By the end of the course the students are able to: 1. Understand and demonstrate knowledge about the animal body plan 2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about chemical signals in animals 3. Demonstrate knowledge about animal digestive systems 4. Demonstrate knowledge about animal transport systems 5. Demonstrate knowledge about animal excretory systems 6. Demonstrate knowledge about animal reproductive systems 7. Understand and demonstrate knowledge about development in animals 8. Explain and demonstrate knowledge about animal defenses against infection 9. Understand and explain about electrical signals in animals 10. Explain and demonstrate knowledge about neural regulation in animals 11. Understand and explain about sensation and movement in animals 12. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about ecology 13. Understand and explain about behavioral ecology 14. Demonstrate knowledge about populations and life history traits 15. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about biodiversity and communities 16. Explain and understand the energy flow and chemical cycling in ecosystems 17. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about conservation and global ecology
Four-hour written examination. No auxiliary material.
