Purpose
For students to reflect on the development of the relationship between the nurse and patient in the short meeting.
Content
Clinical teaching and learning take place in outpatient clinics and hospital wards. The duration is 6 weeks. Clinical teaching and learning are organised as observational studies in clinical placements, which are characterised by brief contact with the patient. • Students observe, describe and reflect on nursing practice questions in practice. • Students observe and partially perform nursing with emphasis on the relationship with patients in patient care pathways characterised by brief contact.
Learning and teaching approaches
The observational study consists of the student together with a nurse observing and performing limited nursing care. Students have the opportunity to observe, describe and analyse nursing questions in practice.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the module can demonstrate the ability to: • describe the nursing provided in the clinical placement setting emphasising the relationship between the nurse and patient • assess the patient’s situation in the short meeting • reflect on the relationship with the patient in the short meeting • adapt communication with regard to the patient’s situation in the short meeting • with progressive independence provide information and guidance to patients in the short meeting • find research results about a selected research question • assess opportunities and obstacles about the implementation of research results in the nursing profession • communicate the examination of a clinical research question to fellow students and staff in the clinical placement • assess own learning needs in relation to the course of study
