Purpose
The purpose is to acquire the competence to work in the field of nursing, meaning to deliver, lead, communicate and develop nursing, which promotes and preserves health and is preventive as well as therapeutic, rehabilitating and palliative.
Content
Teaching and learning are organised as 11 weeks of clinical teaching in secondary or primary healthcare services. The contents are: • Deliver, communicate, lead and develop basic and complex nursing. • Required study activity: delivery and lead nursing for a group of patients – see annexe.
Learning and teaching approaches
Clinical teaching and learning are organised as practice-oriented studies. The practice-oriented study consists of a student independently planning, delivering, communicating, leading and developing nursing – with a nurse as a clinical supervisor. The portfolio will be used as a tool for delivery, reflection and evaluation.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the module can demonstrate the ability to: • Plan, perform, prioritise, coordinate and document nursing for allocated patients. • Provide reasoned arguments based on the most recent nursing practice knowledge regarding the nursing prioritised and delivered. • Deliver basic and complex nursing rooted in ethical considerations and reflection. • Apply the documentation tools used at the clinical placements. • Reflect on nursing performed, both in writing and orally • Collaborate within and across disciplines to ensure a coherent care pathway for patients. • Cooperate with patients and next of kin based on their values, understanding and reactions • Meet the individual patient and their next of kin and demonstrate closeness and understanding for them • Communicate with patients, next of kin and other practitioners based on communication theory • Manage the administration of medication and infusion therapy in line with the medication guidelines (refer to the guidelines for administration of medication) • Based on the most up-to-date knowledge, teach and guide patients, next of kin, colleagues and other practitioners taking into consideration their circumstances • Assess opportunities and obstacles to the implementation of development and research results in nursing • Communicate to colleagues opportunities for and obstacles to the implementation of nursing research findings at the clinical placement • Assess their learning needs about the course of study
