Purpose
To give the students an introduction to mathematical analysis with applications in physics and engineering.
Content
Complex numbers, elementary functions, Taylor polynomials, l’Hospital’s rule, antiderivatives and integrals, introduction to differential equations, limits, series and convergence, power series, Taylor and Maclaurin series, a short introduction to vectors and matrices, functions of several variables, partial differentiation, chain rule in multiple variables, gradient.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures and exercises. Training with Maple software.
Assessment method
Four-hour written exam. Auxiliary exam material allowed - with the exception of computers and calculators that can make abstract symbolic manipulations. The existing grade scale will be used. To be allowed to participate in the exam, four out of six written exercises must be approved.
