Course number
5070.17
Title
Bachelor Project
ECTS
22.5
Prerequisites
Passed courses at the Software Engineering program corresponding to at least 150 ECTS
Purpose
The Bachelor study is concluded by carrying out an original project on a subject in ICT, Software Engineering, or Computer Science, and writing a comprehensible report about the work performed according to the usual norms for scientific-technical reports
Content
Topics will be selected by the students jointly with their advisors. The project includes an outlining of the definition of the assignment in question, measurements with relevant instrumentation where applicable, collection of relevant material, analysis of problem, and possibly design and investigation of systems or programs. A comprehensive report is to be written, including, where relevant, text, figures, tables, abstract, and list of contents, index, and list of symbols. The report shall include a critical and comprehensive discussion and conclusion of the results, and comparison with previously obtained results, e.g. described in the professional and scientific literature. A short non-specialist, popular summary one half A4 page in size is to be written in Faroese and in English. The report will be written in a language agreed upon by the supervisor and the student, normally expected to be Faroese, another Nordic language or English
Learning and teaching approaches
Project based self-study by one student or team work by two students. If done by two students, the contribution(s) from each student must be clearly specified and distinguished between. Discussion with and guidance from supervisor(s). The work has to be completed within 14-16 weeks (depending on if the student(s) is taking a separate (last) course in parallel). The start time of the project is when subject and start agreement has been made with the supervisor(s).
Learning outcomes
On completion of a bachelor dissertation, the successful student should be able to: - Work independently on a new topic under limited guidance - Plan, structure and carry out a substantial workload within a given time frame - Acquire relevant information and critically evaluate its proper usage - Apply knowledge and technical/scientific problem solving techniques - Convey scientific theory, technical information and results in writing, graphically and verbally - Structure their work and results in a coherent and systematic project report using an appropriate scientific language, arguments and format
Assessment method
Evaluation of report, and an oral presentation including personal defense of the report. The oral presentation should take about 20 min. and the personal defense (questions from the examiner/s) should take 10-40 min. Max. 60 min. in total. The existing grade scale will be used
