Prerequisites
Upper Secondary School with B-level in mathematics.
Purpose
To give a basic insight into relevant tools and methods within Project Management in order to organize and complete projects – mainly IT-projects. To understand the role of the project manager and the relevant task, the project manager has to solve. To independently organize a project, present it for others and to get feed-back.
Content
The business case. Project-examples and signatures: general and for IT-projects, different methods in Project Management (Waterfall, Spiral, Agile) and Project Scope. The Project-manager: Communications- and leadership methods, the Project-system, Project-group, and Project-environment. Project-period: faces, goals, to-do list, Working Breakdown Structure, Work packages, Network diagrams, deliverables and releases, milestones and steering. Project-analysis: risk assessment, stakeholder analysis, cost estimates (cost benefit, breakeven), quality measures/control, time plan (GANTT).
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures. Case-exercises – solve problems. Group work with projects. Student-presentations.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student should be able to: - organize projects based on useful Project Management tools learned in the course. - analyse important leadership- and communication forms to be considered and used by the Project Manager depending on circumstances and resources. - analyse scope, risks, stakeholders and time usage for projects. - estimate costs for projects.
Assessment method
Students with approved exercises and a delivered project will be listed individually for an oral examination to present and defend the project-report. The final grade will represent a combined and weighted grading of both the written report and the oral examination: - Project-report (40%), - Presentation and defence of the project-report (30%), - Theoretical knowledge of the course curriculum (30%). Students that fail the oral examination may be listed for a re-examination. Students that did not submit approved exercises and a project-report will get the grade 00/not passed. They may be listed for a re-examination, when they have submitted approved exercises and a project-report.
