Prerequisites
Students are required to hold an upper secondary education diploma or equivalent qualification.

To provide a foundation in world history from the Middle Ages to around 1750, with special focus on European history and history of European origin.
Content
The course affords students a broad knowledge of fundamental connections in world history in the middle ages and up to 1750, as well as knowledge about the basic social conditions in European societies during this period. The course emphasises familiarising students with sound specialist literature on the subject, as well as enabling them to communicate this knowledge to others.
Learning and teaching approaches
The duration of the course is approximately 30 hours. The teaching and learning approaches used are lectures, presentations and discussions. Students are required to choose a subject at the beginning of the course, which they have to prepare a presentation on for the rest of the class. This presentation is a prerequisite for sitting the course examination.
Learning outcomes
Successful students can demonstrate ability to:  Show a broad understanding of the course of history during the Middle Ages and up to around 1750  Formulate fundamental questions on European history predating 1750  Expand their own horizon independently and acquire new knowledge on the subject.
Assessment method
Oral examination assessed externally according to the marking scale in force. In the presence of the lecturer and examiner, the student chooses a question, which they will have 30 minutes to prepare. Students are allowed to bring the course bibliography, course handouts and their own comments to the preparation room for reference. The oral examination, which is organised as a conversation/discussion on the exam question between an active student and a lecturer in which the examiner also has the chance to participate, of course, will last around 20 minutes.
