Bachelor in History, Social Analysis and Planning, Politics and Administration or equivalent qualifications.

The purpose of the course is to provide the students with advanced conceptual, and theoretical competences within the study of history study of Politics and Administration in small states and islands.

Based in the field of small states and islands:  Key concepts and theories in the study of Small States and Islands  Selected concepts within the field of historical philosophy, theory and method.  Selected empirical fields of comparative and international history  Selected empirical fields of public organizations, administration and management.  The dialectics between the history of ideas and material history. And an understanding of historical events as constructed and deconstructed.

The course will be based on a combination of lectures, seminars and group work

The student should be able to:  Formulate and communicate an advanced interdisciplinary understanding on history  Analyze and discuss the key role of history in the development of modern/late modern societies  Make reflexive choices between different theories and theoretical approaches and their practical purpose in understanding the role of history, institutions and organizations in the development of societies  Identify and define concrete problems and methods in studies of history  Reflect upon the above-mentioned problematics in relation to small states and islands
