Purpose
The purpose of the course is to provide the students with theoretical basis for further studies in history
Content
Knowledge about:  Key concepts within the field of historical philosophy, theory and method  Selected empirical fields of comparative and international history  Selected empirical fields of public organisations, administration and management
Learning and teaching approaches
The course will be based on a combination of lectures, thematic seminars and a final written assignment
Learning outcomes
The student should be able to:  Formulate and communicate an advanced interdisciplinary understanding on history  Elucidate the key role of history in the development of modern/late modern societies  Make reflexive choices between different theories and theoretical approaches and their practical purpose in understanding the function of history, institutions and organisations in the development of societies  Identify and define concrete problems and methods in studies of history, relevant for advanced understanding of the development and organisation of societies  Understand and analyse institutional and organisational change
