Bachelor in History, Social Studies and Planning, Politics and Administration or equivalent qualifications.

The purpose of the course is to provide the students with theoretical basis for further studies in history

Knowledge about:  Key concepts within the field of historical philosophy, theory and method  Selected empirical fields of comparative and international history  Selected empirical fields of public organizations, administration and management  The dialectics between the history of ideas and material history  An understanding of historical events as constructed and deconstructed

The course will be based on a combination of lectures, thematic seminars and a final written assignment

The student should be able to:  Formulate and communicate an advanced interdisciplinary understanding on history  Elucidate the key role of history in the development of modern/late modern societies  Make reflexive choices between different theories and theoretical approaches and their practical purpose in understanding the function of history, institutions and organizations in the development of societies  Identify and define concrete problems and methods in studies of history, relevant for understanding the development of small states and islands.
