Prerequisites
Bachelor in History, Social Studies and Planning, Politics and Administration or equivalent qualifications.
Purpose
The purpose of the course is to provide the students with the ontological and epistemological basis and principles of Master learning.
Content
Knowledge about:  The role of history and social science in society and the relation between history and social science.  Different methodological traditions within the disciplines.  Interdisciplinarity, practice orientation and problem based work.  Methodological implications of interdisciplinarity, problem based work and reflexive science.
Learning and teaching approaches
The course will be based on a combination of lectures, thematic seminars and an individually written assignment.
Learning outcomes
 To explain the dynamic interrelation between science and society.  To make critical methodological reflections, i.e. contextualize methodological approaches and choice of methods in relation to societal relevant theory and problem formulation.  To systematize ideas about the scientific production and evaluation of data.  To consider the ethical dimensions of methodology and the production of scientific/academic knowledge in general.
