Bachelor in History, Social Studies and Planning, Politics and Administration or equivalent qualifications.

The purpose of the course is to provide the students with theoretical basis for further studies in Politics and Administration.

Knowledge about: • Key concepts within the theoretical fields of politics and administration • Key conepts in classic and modern management of political organisations. • Key concepts within the theoretical fields modern bureaucracy. • Selected empirical fields of political interest groups and the media • Selected empirical fields of public organisations, administration and management.

The course will be based on a combination of lectures, thematic seminars and a final written assignment

• Formulate and communicate an advanced interdisciplinary understanding on politics and administration. • Elucidate the key roles of politics and administration in modern/ late modern societies. • Make reflexive choices between different theories and theoretical approaches and their practical purpose in understanding the function of institutions and organisations in advanced societies. • Identify and define concrete problems and methods in studies of politics and administration, relevant for advanced understanding of modern institutions and organisations. • Understand and reflect upon institutional and organisational change • Reflect upon the above mentioned problematics in relation to small states and islands.
