Theoretical essay for Master Learning courses (history, social analysis and planning and politics and administration).
Enrolment on Master Learning or equivalent.
The objective is to enable the students to analyse and examine independently a theoretical field of study. The student is required to demonstrate critical and reflexive abilities. The purpose of the essay is also to broaden the acquired theoretical competence of visiting students.
Knowledge about: Field of study chosen within one’s research field (history, social analysis and planning or politics and administration), which is analysed from a theoretical perspective. Theoretical challenges within the chosen field of study. Examining a selected theoretical issue from a critical-reflective point of view.
Learning and teaching approaches
Guidance and seminar work on writing a theoretical essay.
Identify and describe a scientific field of study, including original literature and its core concepts and to examine these with critical reflection. Ability in identifying selected issues and to examine these in particular. To communicate academically and coherently a selected field of study and selected issues via the essay.
Assessment based on the essay, which must be between 8-10.000 words
The bibliography consists of 5-600 pages and shall be approved by the lecturer.
