Prerequisites
Students must have completed a BA in Faroese or hold an equivalent qualification. This course may also be completed as an individual course subject to other prerequisites (please refer to the Degree Programme in force).
Purpose
The aim is for students to acquire knowledge about older and more recent research in Faroese in the field of syntax.
Content
The course will review Chapter 5 of Faroese. An Overview and Reference grammar (2004; 2012). In addition, selected articles on topics in syntax will be examined along with Føroysk mállæra II. Grunddrøg í føroyskari syntaks.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures, presentations, group work, discussions.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: • work critically with the material they are given • asses the value of what they are working with • assess and apply the material in their further work with Faroese. This would include teaching, research and general dissemination of the topic.
Assessment method
Written examination lasting 6 hours. All study aids are permitted.

Faroese. An Overview and Reference Grammar. H. Thráinsson, H. P. Petersen, J. í Lon Jacobsen & Z. S. Hansen. Føroysk mállæra II. Grunddrøg í føroyskari syntaks. H. P. Petersen. In addition, selected articles and other materials will be read. MA students are required to submit a bibliography of approx. 800 pages for examination.
