Prerequisites
Students are required to hold a BA degree in Faroese. Students may also enrol on this course as an individual course (please refer to the degree programme).
Purpose
To provide students with • insight into the short story as a genre and as representative of different trends in Faroese literature • the ability to examine short stories independently and academically through analysis and interpretation based on theory
Content
The course will examine the short story in Faroese literature. Literary theory will be applied to analyse and interpret short stories from a range of periods and trends according to their form and contents. Translated short stories will also be discussed.

Short lectures and student presentations.
Learning outcomes
Successful students can demonstrate insight into the short story genre in Faroese and partly into other literature, students can also demonstrate that they have learned to examine this genre analytically. Successful students can demonstrate that they have learnt to use relevant theory in analysis and presentations. Successful students can also demonstrate the following general abilities: • to apply critical analysis to theory • to assess theories and how they can be applied • to work with definitions • to narrow the scope of a subject • to formulate literary theory questions about a topic or a text • to prepare presentations based on clearly worded questions
Assessment method
Oral examination lasting 30 minutes (with 30 minutes’ preparation time). Reexamination: same procedure as regular examination.
