Purpose
The aim of the course is to show how Field Work is done. Additionally you will get literature about the topic
Content
The student will learn methods regarding Field Work. You shall yourself make appointments with speakers. You shall prepare a grammaticality judgment test and collect data from speakers. When data is collected, it shall be analyzed. You will get guidance in how to analyze the data and how to prepare a grammaticality judgment test. Furthermore you shall read theoretical literature about the topic. The specific Field Work connected to this course concerns the preposition fyri ‘for’ in Faroese.
Learning and teaching approaches
Self-tuition. The students shall make a list of references together with the teacher. He/she shall make a time-schedule with regard to start and finish of the Field Work. During the first month the student will get class-room teaching from two teachers.
Learning outcomes
You shall know different methods regarding Field Work. You shall be able to work with data, analyze them and present them.
Assessment method
PP presentation. You shall prepare the PP presentation within one week. The presentation shall last between 15 to 20 minutes, and shall build on data you have collected. If more than one student presents, the PP presentation shall be longer (40 minutes). The student cannot attend exam, if he/she has done the field work and analyzed data.
