Prerequisites
BA in Faroese. Students with similar prerequisites can apply for individual course participation.
Purpose
The student acquires insight in general and specific theoretical and practical aspects relating to translation. The student shall also gain knowledge regarding the place and significance of translation in society. Additionally the student shall acquire some competance in translating to Faroese.
Content
The course deals with general and specific topics relating to translation of fiction and non-fiction.
Learning and teaching approaches
Presentation of course literature by instructor and students; discussion of topics chosen by instructor and students; written exercises in translation and analyzing translation
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding of the position and significance of translation in society and the terminology of the field. Ability to analyze the main components of the translation process theoretically and practically. Ability to evaluate translations of fiction to Faroese and to translate a given text from Danish or English.
