Prerequisites
A bachelor level degree in Health Science or other relevant bachelor degree, including professional bachelor degrees (e.g. nursing, social education, primary and secondary teaching, social work, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social science or medical technology). Each application will be assessed on an individual basis. Foundation course in theory of science and research methods at master level or equivalent.
Purpose
The purpose of this course is for students to acquire science-based knowledge about and competences to analyse, from a health pedagogy perspective, aspects significant to health and health behaviour. Based on theory in health pedagogy, disease prevention and health promotion students will learn to develop suggestions for measures designed to promote health or prevent disease and to analyse health issues from a contextual viewpoint.
Content
This course will focus on: - Health viewed from different perspectives - Health pedagogy, health promotion and disease prevention - Rehabilitation as health promotion - Sociological and other relevant theories on health and behavioural change - Health promotion and disease prevention and context - Health and social inequality
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching and learning is organised as alternating lectures, group assignments, presentations and self-study. Feedback on this course will be provided both orally and in writing, and both from lecturers and fellow students.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the module shall be able to: - Describe different health concepts and different perspectives on health. - Explain health promotion and disease prevention based on health pedagogy theory. - Explain, analyse and discuss health issues in specific contexts based on relevant sociology theories and theories on behaviour change. - Analyse and assess the importance of health promotion and disease prevention measures from a societal perspective. - Based on health pedagogy and relevant theories on sociology and behaviour change analyse and reflect on concrete health promotion and/or disease prevention measures.
