Purpose
This course will offer students hands-on experience with a sustainability project in connection with the university’s Green Student-House (also called Lindberg’s House). The aim of the course is to give students experience with planning and carrying out a self-defined sustainability project and placing this in a larger context of the transition of Faroese society to a sustainable future.
Content
The course content is divided into three parts: 1) Classroom discussions of academic readings about sustainability and project management accounting for 25% of the time (three meetings two hours each). 2) The project, which should be a self-contained project no longer than 3 months, accounting for 50% of the time. And 3) a communication product about the project which should be made accessible on the Green Student-House webpage, accounting for the remaining 25% of the time. 5 ECTS points equal 137,5 working hours. A project plan is developed by the student and approved by the course coordinator. The project plan should include: - Purpose - Short description of idea - Timeline - Main literature
Learning and teaching approaches
Classroom discussions will introduce different theories and approaches to sustainability and project management, and discuss the practical application and progress of the individual projects.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to: • Describe and discuss what “transition to a sustainable future” means in theory and practice for the Faroe Islands through the example of the project. • Apply such transition ideas in practice. • Demonstrate skills in project management • Demonstrate skills in communication of the project.
Assessment method
Students will be assessed based on the communication project made available on the website (50 %) and a project report (50 %). The project report should be no longer than 2.000 words (excluding front page, table of content, references, and appendices).
