Biologist to the University of the Faroe Islands
The University of the Faroe Islands invites applications for an academic position in biology. The level of appointment will be as Associate Professor or Assistant Professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicant. The University aims to fill the positions on the 1st of January 2019 or as soon as possible.
The position involves research, teaching and corresponding administrative activities.
The candidate will have teaching obligations in degree programs at the Faculty of Science and Technology. The teaching obligations involve lecturing and supervision as well as planning and coordination of course modules. The teaching duties are currently within BSc degree programs in biology, but the employee may also expect to become involved in new programs to be developed at the University.
The research will to a large extent be in the field of expertise of the employee. Applicants with good research qualifications with regard to the marine environment will be preferred. It is desirable that the applicants can indicate opportunities for collaboration with other science communities in the Faroe Islands and abroad.
Applicants must hold a degree in biology and a Ph.D. in a relevant area, and have relevant work experience. The applicants should have experience in, preferably, several of the following fields: ecology, zoology, marine biology, fish biology, molecular biology, biostatistics, or similar fields.
The level of appointment will be as associate professor or assistant professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicant.
The associate professor position is a permanent teaching and research position. Associate professors shall meet very high standards of academic qualifications and expertise in their field. Associate professors shall have good pedagogical skills and administrative experience in higher education and research.
The assistant professor position is a fixed-term teaching and research position with prospects of securing a permanent associate professor position. The term of the assistant professorship is ordinarily 4 years, but may be up to 6 years if circumstances warrant it. Assistant professors are required to undergo an associate professor assessment well ahead of the end of their temporary appointment. Based on a positive outcome of such an assessment, assistant professors may be appointed as associate professors, circumstances permitting.

Terms of appointment
The position will be filled according to the regulations governing positions at the University of the Faroe Islands. The salary and general terms of appointment will be in accordance with agreements between the Ministry of Finance and the Faroese professional union Akademikarafelag Føroya.
