The University of the Faroe Islands is seeking to recruit to a new position of Scientific Developer in Computer Science (Software Engineering and Data Science) in its Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology
The University of the Faroe Islands is the primary higher education and research institution in the Faroe Islands, the nation’s only university and its foremost knowledge centre. The University undertakes research and research-based teaching, providing for synergy between research and teaching to serve the evolving needs and priorities of the Faroes and their wider region.
The University, which plays a vital role in Faroese society, has around 100 academic staff, some 60 staff in support and service positions, and around 1,000 students. The University is comprised of five faculties and a central administration. In all that it does, the University is committed to equality of opportunity, to inclusivity, and to supporting the well-being of our students and staff in an environment in which all can thrive and flourish.
The University is seeking to recruit to a new academic position in computer science (software engineering and data science) in its Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. This Faculty delivers bachelor’s programmes in biology, computer science, engineering, and a mathematics minor. The Faculty also contributes other aspects of education, all linked to and supported by a strengthening culture of research and enterprise. The Faculty currently has 4.5 positions delivering the Software Engineering programme with currently 55 students across two cohorts.
The Faculty of Science and Technology is delighted to be inviting applications for an exciting new opportunity to join its computer science team. The post will be for an initial two-year period, but with a very strong desire on the part of the University to extend the position further, as part of a wider plan for the development of computer science education and research within the Faculty.
The computer science team currently delivers a bachelor’s degree in software engineering, in collaboration with both academic and industry partners in the Faroe Islands and abroad. The team is now also acting on a long-standing aspiration by preparing a masters in the computing science field, to meet the growing demand for highly educated IT professionals on the Faroe Islands.
The new position as Scientific Developer in Computer Science (Software Engineering and Data Science) is being created to support the all-round work of the team, including in delivering important aspects of the existing Software Engineering programme, and also in contributing to the development work focused on the new masters, which will include a focus on data science.

Applicants should hold a relevant university degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in e.g., Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics or something similar.
