Congratulations to Anna-Elisabeth – Winner of the BAAL Book Prize 2025
We are proud to share that Anna-Elisabeth Holm, Assistant Professor at the University of the Faroe Islands, has been awarded the prestigious BAAL Book Prize for her groundbreaking work Migration, Adult Language Learning and Multilingualism.
The prize, presented by the British Association for Applied Linguistics at their annual conference in Glasgow, is awarded each year to an “outstanding book in applied linguistics.” Anna-Elisabeth’s research highlights the experiences of new speakers of Faroese and explores critical questions of language, inclusion, and the labour market.
This recognition builds on her PhD dissertation, New Times in the Faroe Islands, New Speakers of Faroese and Sociolinguistics of Labour Market Inclusion: Challenges and Opportunities, defended at Heriot-Watt University in 2021. Since then, she has continued her research with support from the Faroese Research Council through the project Language, Inclusion and the Labour Market.
We warmly congratulate Anna-Elisabeth on this remarkable international achievement and wish her continued success in her research.
